What Do You Choose Now?

What Do You Choose Now?

“Why is this happening?” is the most useless question in the Universe. The only really profitable question is, “What?” As in, “What do I choose now?” This question empowers. The “why” question simply perplexes, and rarely satisfies even when it gets a good answer. So don’t try to “figure it out.” Stop it. Just focus on what you now wish to create. Keep moving forward. There’s nothing behind you that can possibly serve you better than your highest thoughts about tomorrow. You will not have to think but a second to know exactly why you received this message today. – Neale Donald Walsch

As many of you know, I am big on setting an intention at the beginning of every single day. It becomes my compass, no matter what is happening, allowing me to keep (or re-invent) a sense of alignment, coming back to my center, over and over again. This “What do I choose now” has become even more crucial for me in the past few weeks.

It has been a very tough beginning of the year for many, me included. Crises, hurt and life challenges often come when we least expect them.  And it is legitimate to then ask the “why” question. A good number of my clients who come for a shamanic healing session have many “why” questions. And often Spirits would answer them through the journey. But as often they would say, one way or another, “Now is not the time for this. Now is the time to reconnect to the part in yourself that is intact and to lift your whole being.” And at times they even put a sense of urgency in this process… this person needs to be lifted right now! And this is the first thing I would attend to in the journey; raising that person above the darkness, out of the situation she is in, clearing everything around so that she can feel literally “lighter”.

Every crisis can become an opportunity, but only if we can turn it into one. Whether the crisis becomes that which ultimately sinks or uplifts us is determined by who we can choose to be as we go through it. So the priority is to stop the process in which we feel completely overwhelmed by the pain and darkness. Not that attending to the pain is not necessary, but we cannot do it from a place where we are literally and metaphorically drowning and are confusing our wounds with the whole of who we are.

That battle starts in our mind. No matter what is happening, no one but you can determine what you choose to think. So what are you choosing? Who are you choosing to be now, right this moment – not when you will have healed everything or when your life will be seemingly “perfect”, but now…

To a large extent, shedding the negative thoughts over and over is like shedding old skins. I recently learned that dolphins slough (shed) the outer layer of their skin twelve times per day (every two hours)! Not only does this allow them to let go of their wounds, but increased skin cell turnover increases swimming efficiency by creating a smooth body surface which reduces drag. What a splendid image for us.

“What do you choose now?” You don’t need to have healed everything; you don’t even need to know all that you need to heal to raise your vibration (or frequency), aligning with something higher, wider, that is who you are, no matter what.  As Pema Chödrön put it, “You are the sky. Everything else, it’s just the weather.”

    Dear Beatrice,
more and more myself I have been learning how to “Move around” in the difficult path of life, and you are absolutely right, you can choose to be completely overwhelmed by the circumstances, or choose for that to become your learning experience and turn it around….Yes, it is in our mind, in my mind, that you can find the strength to say to yourself “What do I choose now?” It was never easy for me to do this, and it took a lot of courage and compassion for myself to come to that point, but anyone can do, you have to want to do it….

Thank you Beatrice for teaching me “How to do it”! It is been my life-saver, and it is only the beginning! Life is a beautiful journey….no matter what happens!
